Seashell Textures- Toddler Montessori Activity

This is a great activity for exploring textures. (I posted about the shells here.) I set Little A up with a little wooden box with the shells inside. She could see the shells through the top of the box. She had to work out how to get the box open (I helped at this point).

When she discovered the shells, she was pretty thrilled. She took each out to look at and then promptly put them in her mouth, one at a time. (All the shells were too big to be swallowed and thoroughly washed first.) She seemed to be really concentrating on each shell as she felt it with her fingers and her mouth.

It was so cool to see her explore like this.

Again, this activity is great for exploring different kids of textures. We talked about how one shell was  "pointy" and "rough" while another shell was "smooth". She's just soaking up so much vocabulary at this age. This was a pretty great little project.
